Job title

Research Scientist NGS

Job description

At Loop Genomics we strive to build genomics tools that bring clarity to genetic data. Our technology platform integrates innovation in molecular biology with the design constrain of Illumina’s cost-effective short-read sequencers to bring researchers long read-lengths and ultra-low error rates.

We are looking for an outstanding team player to join our NGS R&D team and report to the Director of Molecular Biology. The individual will apply the principles of Loop Genomics’s technology to solving different NGS sequencing problems, both for custom sequencing projects and for sample prep kit development. This role requires excellent problem-solving skills and superb laboratory liquid handling skills.

The ideal candidate is a dedicated and detail-oriented individual who thrives in a fast-paced work environment, has a solid background in molecular biology techniques, and shares our passion in bringing technology to change the current paradigm of DNA sequencing.

Key responsibilities

  • Perform sample quality control, NGS library preparation, and sequencing for custom sequencing projects

  • Work closely with other R&D team members to optimize NGS library preparation procedures and identify areas of improvement

  • Analyze sequencing data and deliver results to our customers in a timely manner

  • Perform in-depth sequence analysis to interpret experimental observations

  • Perform reagent testing and reagent QA/QC to establish robustness and stability of sample prep kit reagents

  • Ph.D. in one of the following disciplines -- Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Bioengineering, Biological Sciences, or equivalent subjects

  • 0-2 years of relevant industry experience such NGS library preparation, DNA/RNA sample extraction, long-range PCR, and DNA bead-based or column-based cleanup

  • Relevant knowledge of DNA sequencing or other nucleic acid-based technologies

  • Experience in Python, R, or common bioinformatics tools used in genomics and transcriptomics analysis

  • Excellent time management, multitasking skills, and exhibition of strong attention to detail are a must

  • Exhibit team player mentality, stepping up whenever needed

  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills
